For as long as I can remember there has been total confusion as to which fish is the true Corydoras aeneus. Described by Gill in 1858 as Hoplosoma aeneus and later placed in Corydoras. This fish was collected in the clear water streams of South Western Trinidad. It may be that in time and after a lot more scientific research has been done it will revert back to its original genus name, but that's not the point of this article.
